    Exceptional

Stayed here for two nights while visiting Northwestern for a speaking engagement. Hotel was ideally located, a good value, and appealing in a quirky way. Staff was extremely helpful/friendly.

    The continental breakfast is mediocre.

I loved this place! I want to come back. It is a unique property - VERY clean and comfortable. It is special and not a cookie-cutter mundane chain motel. It is a 1920's historical women's club now welcoming hotel guests. It has all the historical charm - NOT gutted and remodeled - so it may not be everyone's choice. I really liked the distinction and the VERY friendly staff.

I liked it completely and I like an unusual and special experience off the beaten track.

    Fabulous

The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. The history of the building was really interesting and the building itself was very cool. I definitely would prefer this over a similarly-priced boring, corporate hotel chain.

The shared bathroom was not my favorite; there are stalls for the showers, stalls for the sinks and stalls for the toilets. They do give you a bathrobe for walking there.

The Manager of the Inn was extremely helpful in providing us with information about how to get to various places and which transportation to take. She also took the time to print reservation sheets for us since we had no printer. The staff were all exceptionally courteous and obliging during our stay.

    Superb

The Margarita European Inn is a charming surprise in Evanston, a suburb of Chicago. This hotel reminded us of Hotel du Quai Voltaire, a hotel in Paris. The parlor and rooftop patio are among the best features of the hotel. There is a nice breeze that goes through the parlor from the french doors. We stayed in a small room with a king sized bed and a shared bathroom. The bedspread wasn't my favorite, but the air conditioning was refreshing on several hot days in August. The hotel is in a safe neighborhood in Evanston, parking is offered behind the building for an additional $8/night. We parked our car and used cta while we were there. The Davis station is a short walk away, it is $4.50/pp round trip to Chicago. Thank you for a nice stay. We hope to be back!

The mattress and bedspread were wanting. The wifi was terrible--the connection dropped quickly and frequently. The clerk that checked us in was disagreeable--at first I was annoyed but soon after went back to ask a question and saw her crying. Encounters with three other hotel employees were very positive.

    Good

First room was over heated. The hotel needs light, it is dark.

The heating is too much, hard to control, very uncomfortable, waste energy, the hotel is hard to find.

The hotel is in a quite spot and has free wireless internet.

I've booked a room through Booked.net, however only when I got to the hotel, they told me that I actually booked a room with a restroom and bathroom down the holl. I thought that was a joke - didn't think that kind of room exist anymore. Well you'd be surprised. Super-inconvenient.

    Fabulous

The 1920s feel - very inspiring, and the lift. And the area was awesome, I had great people to talk to

    Good

The rate was great. I slept really soundly. Down pillows and the most comfortable bed I've slept on in awhile. Despite the 90° heat, the rooms were pleasant to sleep in. Quaint, throwback decor.

The hotel is pretty run down. I understand that it is old but there are just things that need to be cleaned or replaced. The quaint throwback decor isn't a result of some Disney remaking, the furniture is that old and hasn't been maintained in years (it appears). I'm the kind of traveller that doesn't need the latest bathroom fixtures and decorations but would expect these period pieces to be kept in good order.

Wonderful place to explore and enjoy some history. Close walking distance to Northwestern University with many shops and places to eat along the way.

Employees are friendly and the atmosphere was charming.

I loved the charm of the old hotel. I enjoyed the furnishings.

The mattress was not comfortable. I think new mattresses are needed.

    Fabulous

A unique b+b, slightly run down, but with great staff, very comfortable rooms. 'European charme' comes to mind... And did I mention the friendly and always helpful staff already?

Over-powering heating system...but fortunately the windows do open :-)
